Changemakers — the week-long hackathon we’re throwing December 7–11, which will connect nonprofit leaders with volunteers of supreme technical ability from across the tech community in an effort to help them overcome key operational challenges — is coming up fast.
We’re hard at work preparing for it, but we’ve also been heartened and inspired to see the excitement among the dozens of “makers” who’ve signed up to lend their technical expertise.
And today we are excited to announce that we’ve added an esteemed group to that list of makers: we’re officially working with the Google Developers team to support this year’s Changemakers event.
Several experts from the Google Developers team will be lending their innovative chops and expertise in Google’s many powerful backend tools to help their nonprofit partners improve and more strategically automate their mission-critical processes.
We’re officially working with the Google Developers team to support this year’s Changemakers event.
Naturally, through Changemakers, our nonprofit partners will also have access to Tonkean’s software free of charge. But one reason this support from Google Developers is so critical is that the Tonkean platform — which is UI-agnostic, and designed to run in the background of a given organizations’ day-to-day operations — is made stronger by the network of technologies and integrations at the organizations’ disposal. Integrating with Google and their suite of tools provides participating nonprofits an immense amount of powerful functionality.
This is something we’ve seen in practice from our work with Shopping Angels, the food and services delivery nonprofit with whom we began working last March, and whose mission in fact inspired the broader Changemakers initiative.
Shopping Angels enlists volunteers to personally deliver household necessities to those who may prefer to stay home on account of the COVID-19 pandemic. As you may be able to imagine, the job of matching volunteers — who are spread out across the country, and who number in the thousands — with people in their area who are in need of delivery services is challenging and complex. Before partnering with Tonkean, the Shopping Angels team went about that work manually. Tonkean enabled them to automate much of that process. But most influential was the ability to integrate Tonkean with Google API data — which was the real game changer, allowing Shopping Angels to more meaningfully scale their operations and ultimately serve more people in need.
That’s precisely the sort of innovation and operational enhancement that our support from Google Developers will allow Changemakers to provide to even more nonprofits this December. With the Google Developer team on board, we’ll be able to help more organizations dedicated to affecting change do what they do best. And that’s something we’re grateful to be able to do.
