Last month, we at Tonkean announced the launch of our Changemakers initiative, a week-long hackathon that connects nonprofits — people working hard to solve hard-to-solve problems — with volunteer experts from the tech community who can help innovate ways to overcome key operational challenges.
Today we’re excited to announce that we’re officially partnering with the esteemed Pledge 1% to promote Changemakers and help scale up the number of nonprofits and makers we’re able to work with.
Pledge 1% is a special initiative of Tides, a leading global philanthropic partner and non-profit accelerator championed by such business leaders as Marc Benioff. It provides businesses an easy way to leverage a portion of their time, money, equity and/or product to support nonprofits. In doing so, they are systematically empowering business and technology leaders across industry sectors to more meaningfully support change-based movements. One key focus is “skills-based volunteering.”
Today we’re excited to announce that we’re officially partnering with the esteemed Pledge 1% to promote Changemakers and help scale up the number of nonprofits and makers we’re able to work with.
“Skills-based volunteering is one of the most impactful ways that tech professionals can donate their time,” said Amy Lesnick, Chief Executive of Pledge 1%. “Most everyone has the ability to participate in traditional hands-on volunteering events, but when you’re talking about some of the brightest engineers and operations professionals we have, there’s so much additional value if they apply their expertise toward a great cause.”
This makes Pledge 1% an ideal partner for Changemakers, an initiative for which the idea of giving back by way of time and technical expertise is integral. We believe that now more than ever, skills-based volunteering is one of the most impactful forms of philanthropy there is. Nonprofits are leading the way in addressing various critical challenges. And while they’re powered by passion, vision, and tenacity, they’re often burdened by operational hurdles and technical limitations that makers of the sort Pledge 1% works with are uniquely positioned to ameliorate.
We hope to work with more organizations like Pledge 1% through Changemakers in the months ahead. We also want to partner with makers who can provide technical and operational support! Professionals from the operations and IT communities — as nonprofits interested in partnering with them — can register for the event here.
